We uniquely offer a full time 3-year specialised degree: B.com in Hospitality Management.Stenden South Africa is registered with SAQA and is proud to be the only institution in South Africa to offer this degree (NQF level 6). Our program is the same as that run at Stenden University in Leeuwarden, allowing our students to graduate with an international qualification.Practical and Theory work are incorporated into our degree with our first and second year students working in our Learning Hotel (MyPond Hotel) and our third year students completing a 23-week industrial placement. Hospitality/Tourism is a fast growing industry with many career opportunities, and Stenden South Africa can be the key to your future in these industries. Stenden South Africa, is a small satellite campus of Stenden University Holland (based in Leeuwarden), previously known as Educational Institute for Service Studies, and is situated in the picturesque coastal town of Port Alfred in the Eastern Cape.

Stenden University has a long and diverse history of academic performance. The Grand Tour is an old European custom whereby youngsters were encouraged to travel and see the World before settling themselves in a career. Stenden had the desire to re-invent this concept and incorporate it in the different degree courses it offers. By establishing international campus sites the vision to offer a true international education experience materialized. Today Stenden offers higher education at campuses in The Netherlands, Indonesia, Qatar and South Africa. The main program offered at each campus site is hospitality management and this program is currently offered in Port Alfred as well. Stenden South Africa in Port Alfred offers a Bachelors of Commerce in Hospitality Management and different minor modules that are executed on behalf of Stenden University in The Netherlands. Stenden South Africa educates students in a value driven manner to become exemplary leaders of industry, unleashing potential in our students, staff, and surrounding communities. Summer lasts from mid-October to mid-February and is characterized by hot, sunny weather and thunderstorms that clear relatively quickly. The only exception is the Western Cape where due to the Mediterranean climate, the rain falls during the winter months. Autumn lasts from mid-February to April and is characterized by little rain and warm weather which is ideal for travelling and sightseeing. No, it is not necessary to take tablets or get an injection prior to arrival. It is suggested that you have it done when you arrive as the latest strain is available. A laundry facility is available on campus for a nominal fee. Port Alfred is a very safe town, however, as in any place there is petty theft. It is advised that students walk in pairs during the day and in groups in the evenings. As is the case in any country, this is merely a precautionary measure. Students should put wallets, laptops and cell phones away from the windows and out of sight during the day to prevent temptation. Each student accommodation has a security guard patrolling the house at night and is there for the peace of mind of students. All students are required to bring either their Stenden uniform or a smart suit with them. The IHM students need to bring their chef’s uniform as well. These are essential for site visits, presentations, functions and cooking practicals. There are two shopping malls in Port Alfred where you can find clothing stores, pharmacies, surf shops and supermarkets.
