Learning in Port Alfred, Teacher in Port Alfred, School in Port Alfred, Nursery in Port Alfred

We aim to see our children achieve not only in the classroom but on the sports field as well.
Our Grade R class runs according to the Open Framework Model which was originally designed for the gifted child and encourages the child to take responsibility for their own learning within a structured learning environment, we, at Happy Hours believe each child is gifted and it is our duty as teachers to discover where their gifting lies.

Our readiness programme includes Letterland, a weekly Numeracy Day, AUDIBLOX, Spiral Staircase Music, Kindermuzik, Ball games and many opportunities for creative art and drama! The children who have experienced the Happy Hours School Readiness Programme are confident, outgoing, self-assured, eager and ready to learn. Unfortunately, with the state of our roads the long trips are no longer taken, as the safety of our children remains paramount to us! We believe in continuous assessment and this is evident in the children's portfolios. Music plays a very important part in our curriculum. Our formal Ball skills programme has been carefully developed and covers all the different ball skills, which need to be achieved at this level. We encourage parents to visit our classrooms and to see their children's artwork displayed on the walls. We hold quarterly parent's meetings and all parents are encouraged to attend! Parents, who are able to, are also encouraged to build puzzles with their little ones in the mornings! Happy Hours is indeed extremely blessed to have the resources we have. Our theme related creative art activities display many varied techniques, skills and independent thought where each child's project is treated with respect and great self worth and esteem is nurtured. Music, movement, bible stories, fantasy play, small and big group educational and fun games and activities are the order of the day and enjoyed by all learners! The foundation building blocks of numeracy and literacy are laid using concrete, fun experiences and activities. The Middle group children also participate in a weekly Boook Club facility where they are encouraged to take 2 library books home to be read to them by their parents. Ball games, team games, music appreciation, dramatusations and instrumemtalisation are all weekly highlights and active participation is the norm of the day. The Junior class (children turning 4 in this class) runs according to the Traditional Nursery School model where all children in the class are involved with the same activity at the same time while the teacher facilitates and leads the learning activity or experience. The Little group class ( children turning 3 in this class) runs according to the Traditional Nursery School model where all children in the class are involved with the same activity at the same time while the teacher facilitates and leads the learning activity or experience. Making friends, learning to play together, sharing and caring is the work of the 3 year old child! Their physical development is nurtured through spending planned time in the hall where they dance and move to Jog the Frog, the Giggle Bellies as well as to the Kindermusik programme. Ball skills and developing a knowledge of their body in space is very important to their development.
